Up now is maybe a Faber Ironheart, or more likely, since Faber is an Imp, a generic Steel Juggernaut for my new Free Dwarfs. Even then, Free Dwarfs didn't get these in 3E, so this may not be long for the table, but hey, for as long as we can legally field the contraption, we'll use it.
Quarter profile.
I picked up the model probably nearly a decade ago, when a local store was going out of business. I had a bit of store credit to use up, but was late to the sales, and came away with a small hodgepodge of models, as even the paints were all gone by the time I made it out to the shop.
Almost dead-on.
I didn't like the exo-skeleton of the official Mantic model, and wanted an alternative. The model is a Warjack from War Machine. (Looks like the Retaliator Crucible Guard?) The model had a beaky head low-down, like a hunchback, which I didn't like, but after fiddling around, I liked the concept of a “ball-gunner turret” approach to this. To get that feel I covered the head nook with a shield to make a chest piece, and then put a Mantic dwarf head further up, and then bulked out the model slightly with some dwarf pauldrons picked up from a bits store long ago. The idea is that dwarf hops in, where he can manipulate levers and gears unseen, and the pauldrons secure him inside the contraption. This has been assembled for maybe three years now. It’s funky, but I think it works!
And one pic from the other side.
As-mentioned, on the table, this is most likely going to be a Steel Juggernaut. In that role, the Steel Juggernaught doesn’t Inspire, but does have longer-ranged shooting than the Faber option, and I think it could do some nice work interdicting and defending other shooting units.
The Dwarfs have tons
of support units to pick from though, so we’ll see how often this
guy can actually hit the table. Speaking of, I'm finishing up a number of those support pieces, so more to come soon!
