Up now are two more Gargoyle units for the Forces of the Abyss! The models are Mantic, picked up second-hand after 4E was revealed. I originally used a drywall compound to dirty up the original duo of units, since I don't like the pillars, but I think that little tub was actually used as-intended for some home repairs over the last few years at our new place. I used some milliput here instead, and having only 9 models, went with a 5-4 split for the new units, which still works as the models are so ridiculously ungainly to multibase.
The new duo.
Paint-wise, as-before we primed in black, added the
minis and more paste to the bases, painted all that black, and then
hit it all with over-brushed dark gray, and dry-brushed gray, with a
red wash on the wings. Lava is still an orange base with some layers
of yellow. Nice and easy here.
The first new troop.
Looking at the rules, lots of
heavy-hitting fliers slowed down, and with sticky combats, I figured
some extra Speed 10 flying Gargoyles would be strong in the new
edition. They can play the scenario, or I can use them to pin things
down for a turn, letting heavy hitters get into place. Chaff is still
great and a few more units should be able to do well in the new
edition!
Yeah, 4 models looks good enough!
My opponent in Game 4 at Northwoods also thought they had promise, and while he could have been more aggressive in his follow-up moves, these were still used to good effect against me there. The Abyssals are still a funky army, but I am hoping to line up a few games with them soon to start exploring them!
