Up now are some Hellhounds for the Forces of the Abyss!
The models are from Reaper, picked up from a FLGS on a whim over the winter. Reaper designs their models to be ready to paint immediately, but that never sat well with me. Their older (usually white) plastic was flimsy and the model would bend and flex and the paint would chip right off. Their newer stuff (Bones Black) is much more firm, but I've yet to really use the models as-designed. A good wash and rinse then and we were ready for priming and painting. With their collars, the models reminded me of Abyssal Berserkers, and the rocky skin reminded me of Abyssal Gargoyles, so these seemed like they would fit right in! Nothing fancy or worth noting for the paint job.
They are cavalry not a swarm, so three models seems light, but they do fill the base well enough. |
The Hellhounds have been used against me before, but only as regiments. Their big plays came from before our group got into good habits of "intention" and the game state, so they got to me unexpectedly, and tended to need a lot of help (typically a Brew of Strength, Brew of Sharpness, and/or Seductress with BC nearby), and so I had written them off.
Having recently played around with the Herd Lycans and my throwback lists though, speed is a lot fun, and I figured these would still be fun to try out for myself sometime. I want to hop over to some Abyssal lists for the next Escalation League games, so we should hopefully see these on the table very soon.
